CAMPBELL TESTING COMPANY, INC.: Our View

-
Our view on testing.
-
It is our opinion at Campbell Testing Company, that while hydrostatic(water) testing is extremely effective at preventing LIQUID leaks in tubing strings and downhole equipment, it is inadequate for establishing GAS tightness of "Premium Thread" connections.
In tests conducted with hydrostatic pressures up to the pipe body yield, no leaks were found, whereas significant gas leaks were found at test pressures far below the pipe body yield.
NITROGEN testing is a visual test which is accomplished by applying internal pressure to the connection with nitrogen, then using a "Bubble Bucket" or by spraying the connection with a leak locator to find escaping gas.
With the addition of HELIUM as a tracer, and the use of advanced detection equipment, we can detect molecules of helium escaping the connection. This test has developed into a highly sensitive and reliable means of leak detection.
